THE SIDELINES : Football to Surge in Sacramento

The Sacramento team that is joining the 10-team World League of American Football will be known as the Sacramento Surge.

Sacramento is the only West Coast entry in the World League, which includes New York City; Orlando, Fla.; Birmingham, Ala.; San Antonio, Tex.; the Carolinas, and the foreign cities of London, Frankfurt, Barcelona and Montreal.

The name Surge won out over competing names Pioneers, Gold Miners, Stallions and Dragons.

Surge colors will be aqua, gold and white. The logo will be a letter “S” in a triangular field of gold. Helmets will be white.
