Tax Increases

Share

Bill Kirlin-Hackett (letter, Nov. 27) states, “It should be clear or getting clearer that our ‘no new tax’ paranoia cannot continue.” I have sad news for you Bill, it better continue. I would like to make four points:

1. The answer is always to throw money at the problem. That never has solved it and never will.

2. There has never been an election when there wasn’t some dire need to raise taxes for some worthy cause. Most of these (fortunately) have been turned down and the world has not come to an end. It doesn’t make any difference how valid the need is, you cannot continue to raise taxes. Sooner or later, you go bust.

3. If we need more money for the poor, or whatever, take the money out of the pockets of the politicians, not the taxpayers. Elimination of all the pork-barrel projects alone would put all the homeless in mansions, without talking about the pay raise the politicians just gave themselves.

4. If liberals wish to dig deep into their pockets to help all the failures and misfits of this world, feel free to do so. I just ask that they keep their hands out of my pockets.
