Briton in Thai Court on Drug Smuggling Charges

BANGKOK, Thailand —
Patricia Cahill, 17, of Birmingham, England, appeared Friday in a Bangkok juvenile court facing a possible death sentence if convicted of smuggling heroin. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Cahill and her companion, 19-year-old Karyn Smith, were arrested at the Bangkok airport in July in connection with the seizure of 58 pounds of heroin. Smith has pleaded guilty and is expected to be sentenced before Christmas.
