National Semiconductor today reported a 45% jump in second-quarter profits, attributing the gain to a credit stemming from the company’s recent restructuring.

For the three months ended Nov. 25, the company reported net income of $3.5 million, compared to $2.4 million for the same period a year ago.

Sales were $427.4 million, up 2% over $416.8 million for the same quarter of 1989.

National Semiconductor said the quarter’s results included a $2.4-million credit reflecting the reversal of restructuring charges stemming from the closure of its plant in Danbury, Conn.

The company also announced during the quarter that it had signed a letter of intent to sell its plant in Puyallup, Wash., to Matsushita Electronics Corp. The transaction is expected to be completed by April, 1991.
