P.M. BRIEFING : Japanese Workers Get Bonuses
Bonuses were paid today to Japan’s 4.46 million government workers, which include employees at government-owned corporations.
Officials said the bonuses totaled about $24.3 billion, which is equivalent to 2 1/2 months’ pay averaging about $5,450 per person.
The officials said public workers will receive an additional amount of year-end bonuses by the end of this year, as Parliament is expected to approve a wage hike bill for public-sector workers at its session convened today.
Most Japanese workers receive bonuses twice a year--summer and year-end.
