Britain’s Communist Party, its membership down to 6,000 from a onetime peak of 40,000, voted Sunday to end its commitment to Marxism but put off changing its name until next year.

On the second day of a two-day congress, the 70-year-old Communist Party of Great Britain adopted a proposal to replace Marxism with wider issues and alliances, such as those pursued by the environmentalist Greens party.
