From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A judge postponed a bail hearing for Egyptian immigrant El Sayyid Nosair, the accused killer of militant Zionist Rabbi Meir Kahane, as Jewish and Arab groups screamed hatred at each other in the street outside state Supreme Court in Manhattan. Dozens of police kept the two groups separated in the emotionally charged scene as individuals from both sides tried to get at their adversaries. Supreme Court Justice Alvin Schlesinger postponed the hearing on the $300,000 bail set for Nosair, who has pleaded innocent to the charges, until Dec. 18 after his attorney showed up more than an hour late.
