Cal State Northridge forward Shelton Boykin lost his starting position for tonight’s game at Cal State Long Beach, and guard David Keeter is doubtful for the game because of an ankle injury.

Boykin, who leads CSUN in rebounding with 7.7 a game, was whistled for two technical fouls and an intentional foul Saturday in a 104-78 loss to Montana State.

He drew the first technical for slamming the ball and received the second one for complaining to officials following an intentional foul, a hard shove under the basket.

“It was one of those frustration type of things. Everybody is frustrated right now,” said Coach Pete Cassidy of his 1-5 team. “Not that that is acceptable--don’t misunderstand me--but I understand the frustration of a competitive individual and how it can build up.”

Senior Kirk Scott, the lone returning player from last season’s team, is expected to start for Boykin, a junior from Valley College and San Fernando High.

Keeter, a junior from El Camino College, sprained his ankle Monday night in practice.

Until Thursday’s game against Montana, when he scored only three points, Keeter was the team scoring leader.

Two nights later, he lost his starting job against Montana State, went scoreless in a five-minute stint and saw his average dip to 10 points a game.

Keeter could be available for Friday’s game at Matador Gymnasium against the University of San Diego.
