Microsoft, Lotus, Ashton-Tate Sue Rivals: The world’s top three software publishers, said they had filed lawsuits against two European companies, accusing them of copyright violations. The three companies jointly filed suit against France’s Rhone-Poulenc’s films division seeking $1 million in damages for piracy of their popular software programs. The three companies, along with WordPerfect Corp., also filed the first lawsuit in Britain for software piracy against Marconi Instruments Ltd., a unit of General Electric Co., but did not disclose the amount of damages they were seeking.
