P.M. BRIEFING : Alert Prompts Cosmetic Recall
- Share via
TOKYO — Shiseido Co., Japan’s leading cosmetics maker, said today its Australian and Singapore subsidiaries are recalling six skin care products containing an acid that one Australian researcher linked to skin cancer.
A Shiseido spokesman said, however, that urocanic acid has been used worldwide for a long time and has been approved as safe by Japan, the United States and many other governments.
He said Shiseido does not plan to recall the products elsewhere.
The spokesman said an Australian government advisory on Dec. 18 urged a recall and a gradual suspension of use of the acid, an ultraviolet absorbing material.
