SIMI VALLEY : Neighborhood Panel Positions Are Open

Share

Applications are being accepted for positions on Simi Valley’s neighborhood councils, which serve as advisory panels to city officials.

The only requirements are that applicants be residents and at least 18 years old, city officials said.

Seats are open on all four neighborhood councils, which have about nine members each. Members are appointed by the City Council to serve two-year terms.

Each council represents a specific zone and meets regularly to review issues of public concern inside the zone. Their recommendations are then forwarded to the City Council.

For 20 years, the neighborhood council program has served as a steppingstone to City Hall. Three of the five current City Council members, including Mayor Gregory Stratton, served on neighborhood councils.

The boundaries of Neighborhood Council 1 extend from the west end of the city to 1st Street; Neighborhood Council 2, from 1st Street to Sycamore Drive; Neighborhood Council 3, from Sycamore Drive to Stearns Street; and Neighborhood Council 4, from Stearns Street to the east end of the city.

More information about the neighborhood council program may be obtained from the city’s Department of Environmental Services.

The deadline for submitting applications to the city clerk’s office is Friday, Jan. 25.
