The “me” syndrome of the 1980s that was advocated by former President Ronald Reagan is reflected in the attitude of those opposing the SOS (Share Our Selves) distribution center.

If we can put it in someone else’s back yard, then we don’t have to be reminded that, in spite of the immense wealth accumulated by some people during the past 10 years, there are more people, including children, who are starving than possibly at any time in our history.

Can the rich continue to close their hearts and eyes and just say “no, not in our back yard”? It’s time to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate than we.
