Series on Criminal Justice System in Los Angeles

Share

The recent Times series regarding the inclusion of minorities in non-minority news as well as their employee status on the nation’s newspapers was excellent, and I was impressed that The Times included criticism of itself.

It was apparent in a more recent series regarding the criminal justice system in Los Angeles that The Times deserved that criticism and then some! I did not fail to notice that the pictured “good guys” (judges, police, prosecutors, probation officers) were all white, while pictures included of the “bad guys” (drug dealers and other criminals) were either Latinos or blacks as were most of the names of those identified as “bad guys” throughout the series. And where do other minorities who were invisible in this series (e.g., Asians, American Indians, Middle Easterners) fit?
