‘87 Philippine Coup Figure Recaptured
Philippine troops Tuesday captured a former air force colonel who escaped from jail after being convicted of taking part in a 1987 coup attempt, a military spokesman said.
Rodolfo Calzado was seized at dawn in a Manila park, air force Maj. Alex Teves told a news conference. He said Calzado led rebel troops in attacking Sangley air base in the January, 1987, coup attempt, the third launched against President Corazon Aquino.
Calzado had been sentenced to 12 years in prison. He escaped from a military jail in February, 1989.
