LOCAL : Farrell Won’t Seek Reelection
Los Angeles Councilman Robert Farrell said today he will not seek reelection to the South-Central City Council seat he has held for 17 years. He and Nate Holden are the only two black representatives left on the 15-seat council since the death last week of longtime Councilman Gilbert Lindsay.
“Work at City Hall has been the priority in my life for half of it; almost 27 years of appointed and elected service, from 1964 to date,” said Farrell, 53. “I want to now give the priority of my time to my family.”
Farrell, a Democrat, has represented the 8th District since winning a special election to succeed Billy Mills in 1974. He won reelection in 1975 and has kept the seat ever since.
