Hey, Watch It: A Costa Mesa advertising agency has won a Best of Show award for an ad campaign that deliberately insults television viewers.

In the spot dreamed up by Salvati Montgomery Sakota Inc. for a pen manufacturer, a conservatively dressed man spouts off a stream of insults, then suggests that viewers write to complain with--you guessed it--Scripto’s new Airloc pen.

The spot for client Scripto-Tokai Corp., which was broadcast primarily over the MTV cable channel last year, won the award from the Art Director’s Club of Los Angeles annual awards show. It was one of only five Best of Show awards culled from over 1,700 entries.
