Compton : Council Has Final Vote on Police Pay Raise Agreement
After three years without raises, Compton police officers will begin getting bigger paychecks at the end of the month if the City Council gives final approval to a wage agreement already ratified by the police union.
City negotiators and the Compton Police Officers Assn., which represents about 90 patrol officers and sergeants, have agreed on a 2% raise as of Jan. 1 and a second pay hike of 3% in July. They also have agreed that the city-provided life insurance will be raised from $5,000 to $35,000.
Under the agreement, the salary for a starting patrol officer would be raised from the current $2,833 per month to about $2,889 as of Jan. 1. In July, the salary would go up by 3%, to about $2,975. In July, five-year veteran police officers would be earning about $3,274 monthly, up from the approximately $3,116 they now earn.
The new contract would expire in June, 1992.
