Jean L. Hartman; Dance Studio Owner

Jean L. Hartman, an owner of Garri Dance Studio in Burbank for 34 years, has died at her Burbank home. She was 66.

Mrs. Hartman died Sunday of cancer, said her husband, Kenneth H. Hartman.

Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Sedalia, Mo., she came to California as a child and graduated from Burbank High School in 1942. Trained in Hollywood dance studios, she performed tap and chorus line dances on various television shows in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

She taught fourth and fifth grade from 1948 to 1954 at the former Lincoln Elementary School in Burbank, before she and partner PegE Bell started Garri Dance Studio in 1956.

Mrs. Hartman, who had taught some classes at the studio, served as business manager until the time of her death.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years; a son, Gregory D. Hartman of Burbank; and two grandchildren.

A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Hollywood Hills, is handling arrangements.

Donations can be made in Mrs. Hartman’s name to the American Cancer Society, San Fernando Valley unit.
