MSL’s Storm Wins Zurich Tourney

The St. Louis Storm, the first MSL team to participate in the Zurich International New Year’s indoor soccer tournament, clinched the title on Wednesday by shutting out F.C. Zurich, 4-0, in the championship game.

Former Socker goalie Zoltan Toth picked up the shutout. It was his fourth victory of the tournament.

About 5,300 watched the 40-minute final. MEN’S BASKETBALL

Tim Rapp scored 30 points to lead UC San Diego to a 109-97 victory over New York’s Nazareth. The difference in the game was in the first half shooting. UCSD, which led, 59-48, at halftime shot 65% from the floor compared to Nazareth’s 57%. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Carmelia Bloodsaw scored 25 points to lead San Diego State to a 72-54 victory over Cal Poly Pomona (6-6) at Peterson Gym.

Christi English scored a career-high 27 points to lead University of San Diego to a 89-57 victory. English, a senior forward, shot 11 of 16 from the floor and went five of five from the free throw line.

Sophomore Lisa Beaver had a career-high game with 30 points and 17 rebounds to lead UC San Diego to a 73-70 victory over New York’s Nazareth.
