4 Deputies Sue Over Transfers From Station

Four sheriff’s deputies who contend that they were wrongly linked to a group of alleged gang-like deputies sued the department Thursday for transferring them from the Lynwood station without their consent.

Deputies Jason Mann, Clifford Yates, Michael Duran, Michael Schneider and the Assn. for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs filed the lawsuit against Los Angeles County, the Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Sherman Block and Capt. Bert Cueva, commander of the Lynwood station.

“We will continue to manage the department as we feel is appropriate,” Block said of the suit.

The suit contends that the deputies were told they were being transferred shortly after a newspaper article indicated a group of Lynwood station deputies adopted gang-like actions and jargon and allegedly engaged in criminal activities.

The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, contends that the four were singled out without justification and were denied due process.
