LAGUNA BEACH : Christmas Tree Can Be Traded for Chips

Share

Laguna Beach residents can trade their used Christmas trees for wood chips as part of a first-ever tree recycling program sponsored by the city.

Trees can be taken to the city employees’ parking lot on Laguna Canyon Road between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as part of the pilot program held in conjunction with other city recycling efforts, Municipal Services Director Terry Brandt said Thursday.

The city’s Fire Department and firefighter reserves will staff the tree drop-off site.

Residents should remove tree stands and nails, ornaments and tinsel, Brandt said, adding that no flocked or fire-proofed trees will be accepted.

Residents interested in receiving wood chips in exchange for the trees should bring a container to the parking lot, Brandt said. Leftover wood chips will be used by the city for parks and landscape maintenance.
