From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A defense contractor who admitted selling defective replacement parts to the Pentagon was sentenced in Syracuse, N.Y., to a harsher sentence than had been agreed upon in his plea bargain. U.S. District Judge Howard Munson sentenced Reginald Knaub to 3 years and five months in prison and ordered him to pay $1.55 million in restitution to the Defense Department. Prosecutors said they asked for a harsher sentence than the 2 1/2 years originally agreed upon because the parts may have found themselves in equipment used in Operation Desert Shield.
