Treachery, betrayal, deceit and sex have always made for a good story. The La Mirada Theatre’s Broadway Season will present “Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” a story of intrigue, seduction and betrayal, opening Tuesday and running through Jan. 27.

“Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” written in 1792 by French artillery officer Choderlos de Laclos, is set in the court of King Louis XIV seven years before the French Revolution. The story of seduction stems from the Marquise de Merteuil and her desire for revenge on her most recent lover for leaving her to marry Cecile, a 15-year-old virgin. The Marquise enlists the services of a former lover, Le Vicomte de Valmont, to seduce the bride-to-be. Valmont decides that such an easy conquest would not serve his reputation and chooses to seduce a woman known for her virtue, happy marriage and religious piety, Madame de Tourvel.

Donna Mills, best known for her role as Abby in the television series “Knots Landing,” will star as Marquise de Merteuil.

Johnston as Madame Rosemond.

Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” is directed by Scott Rogers and producted by Herb Rogers. Hampton also adapted the novel for Broadway and for the movie “Dangerous Liaisons,” which starred Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer.
