World IN BRIEF : MALI : Government Signs Truce With Nomads

Mali’s government and Tuareg nomads have agreed to a truce, Algerian national television reported. Their conflict has reportedly killed hundreds of soldiers and desert tribesmen. Algeria mediated the peace talks, which have produced a plan calling for giving two regions in northern Mali on the Algerian frontier--where many Tuaregs have settled--a special status amounting to “internal autonomy.”
