Ari Vatanen of Finland led the Paris-Dakar rally after the eighth day. Vatanen finished the 376 miles from Tumu, Libya, to Dirkou, Niger, in a Citroen, 2:50 ahead of Frenchman Pierre Lartigue’s Mitsubishi.
