Anti-Fur Groups Cheer Firm’s Demise: Anti-fur activists celebrated after Northbay Fur Sales, a fur auction house in North Bay, Canada, said it was going out of business. “It’s the sound of the death knell for the fur industry”, exulted Michael O’Sullivan of the World Society for the Protection of Animals. Northbay Fur, owned by the Ontario Trappers Assn., was in debt because of a sharp drop in fur prices. Fur traders say prices have dropped because of a golbal surplus, not a drop in demand. The major remaining North American fur auction houses are Hudson’s Bay Toronto, Hudson’s Bay New York and the Seattle Fur Exchange.
