Registration of Assault Guns

Here it is 1991, a year and a half after the “assault weapon” law was passed, and about 5% of the weapons have been registered. After considerable soul-searching, I registered mine. No one else I know did. I condemn others who practice “civil disobedience.” I cannot in good conscience pick and choose which laws I want to obey. I have always felt that the National Rifle Assn. was too radical in opposing most gun control. I saw no problem with law-abiding citizens registering guns as we do cars and dogs.

My friends and I have been going to the desert and “plinking” for more than 20 years. We do not hunt. This law makes it illegal for us to shoot our registered guns even in the middle of nowhere.

I guess the NRA was right all along. We cannot adopt a reasonable approach to control without the anti-gun radicals trampling all over our rights. The law has not only convinced me to donate and fight against all gun control, it has made criminals of hundreds of thousands of otherwise good citizens.
