J. Murray Greer; Retired Pharmacist

J. Murray Greer, who owned two pharmacies and a property management company in Glendale, has died in a Newport Beach convalescent hospital. He was 88.

He died Dec. 25 of natural causes, said his daughter-in-law, Anne Greer.

Born July 24, 1902, in Chicago, Greer came to California as a teen-ager and graduated from Compton High School in 1922. He graduated from the USC School of Pharmacy in 1925. In the 1930s and ‘40s, he owned Greer Drug Co. in Glendale. He later worked for other pharmacies, including Horton & Converse Pharmacy, where he was a general manager for the company’s Southern California stores. Greer also owned and operated Greer Building Co. in Glendale from the mid-1930s to the mid-1980s. He was a member of Glendale Masonic Lodge No. 544.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice Greer of Glendale; son Jay Murray Greer of Balboa Island; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services were held Saturday, with burial at Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale. Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary handled arrangements. Donations can be made in Greer’s name to the Shriners Burns Institutes, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607.
