Sunny Weekend to Follow in Wake of Mid-Week Rain

The rains that dampened roses and roads alike two days ago are gone, and the weekend is shaping up sunny and dry with pleasant temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The Pacific Ocean is awash in storms from here to China, said forecaster Wilbur Shigehara, but none are expected to dampen San Diego because of a high pressure front along the southern coast.

The high pressure is enough to block the storms and push them northward toward San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest, Shigehara said.

With a high pressure front shielding the area from storms, the weather promises to be near seasonal, he said. That translates to highs of about 65 degrees during the day and nighttime lows of 48. Skies will be sunny with occasional high clouds.

The humidity is a very high 60% to 65%, but that is also seasonal, Shigehara said. The only unusual prospect is the possibility of late-night and early-morning fog in desert areas such as Borrego Springs tonight and Saturday.

At the beaches, temperatures will range from 58 to 63 today and warm up a degree or two over the weekend, Shigehara said. The water is a cool 57 degrees, and the surf nearly flat at 1 to 3 feet.

Coastal areas are expected to see highs of 63 to 67 today, with temperatures inching up to 64 to 68 on Saturday and 65 to 75 on Sunday. Nighttime lows will drop to 45 to 53 tonight and through the weekend, Shigehara said.

Temperatures in the inland areas will rise to 65 to 70 today; and 68 to 73 by Sunday, he said. Nighttime temperatures should dip to between 40 and 50 tonight and over the weekend.

Mountain temperatures are inching upward. The mercury will rise to 43 and 48 today; 45 to 50 by Saturday and 48 to 55 on Sunday, Shigehara said. Local winds could gust to 25 m.p.h. Nighttime lows are expected to dip to 25 to 35 tonight, 27 to 37 over the weekend.

In the deserts, the forecast calls for temperatures to rise to 62 to 68 today, 65 to 78 on Saturday and 68 to 74 on Sunday. Nighttime lows will fall to 42 to 52 tonight but rise to 45 to 55 over the weekend.
