The Conejo Valley Art Museum may move to Janss Mall if the Thousand Oaks City Council approves the deal, an official said Thursday.

Museum President Maria Dessornes said the 12-year-old museum has found a storefront near the Sears store at the mall but is awaiting clearance from the city before moving in.

Janss Corp. officials proposed donating 3,500 to 4,000 square feet of space, said Joe Hinsberg, community services manager of the city.

The City Council is scheduled to consider the matter at its meeting Tuesday.

City officials asked the museum to vacate a city-owned building at 191 W. Wilbur Road by Jan. 31 after it was sold last month to a Thousand Oaks dentist.

The art museum shared the building with the Braille Institute, which this week moved to a community room of the Newbury Park Library, Hinsberg said. The institute is scheduled tomove to the Goebel Senior Center in June.

Dessornes said the museum could move to its new location as soon as February.

The museum was housed in a storefront at Janss Mall in 1978 for two years, Dessornes said.

In 1985, the museum moved to the Wilbur Road building.
