PORT HUENEME : Condos Planned for City’s Last Beach Lot

Share

A development group announced Thursday that it has purchased Port Hueneme’s last vacant beach lot and intends to build condominiums on the 15 acres.

Batta Vujicic, president of Prime West Inc. of Westlake, one of three firms that bought the parcel, said condos at the oceanfront complex are expected to sell for $375,000 to $450,000 each.

“The city and the neighbors want a monumental-type structure,” he said. “That’s what we’re going to give them.”

The development group bought the 15 acres in December for $3.5 million from the Lane family trust. The Lane family bought the parcel for $650,000 in 1972.

Prospective developers had considered the “Sunkist Site,” named for its historic use as a citrus packing plant, for years. But the city of Port Hueneme had held out for a luxury hotel that would help revive Hueneme Beach’s west end, said Tom Figg, community development director.

The city agreed to allow the condo project because a hotel proved too ambitious. Condo developers, the Dolphin Partnership Group, also agreed to a number of conditions desired by the city.
