Boy, 11, Goes on Trial in Grandmother’s Killing
An 11-year-old Anaheim boy accused of helping his mother kill his grandmother went on trial in Pasadena Juvenile Court on Thursday.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Thomas Krag has alleged that Roma Jacobs, 78, was first stabbed by her daughter, Victoria Elizabeth Jacobs Madeira, then shot by both Madeira and Madeira’s son on Oct. 14 inside her La Canada Flintridge home.
Madeira, 43, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and faces a preliminary hearing Jan. 24 in Glendale Municipal Court.
The boy, whose name was not released, if convicted would be held until age 25 by the California Youth Authority.
County social workers, testifying Thursday for the prosecution, said that Madeira and her son believed Roma Jacobs and other family members were trying to hurt the boy or take him away. The boy told authorities that his grandmother stabbed and shot herself, Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Clinkunbroomer testified.
