SAN CLEMENTE : Waterline Project ill Be Discussed

Share

Plans by the South Coast Water District to construct a water pipeline under Avenida Pico will be discussed at a meeting Tuesday.

Discussion during the 5 p.m. meeting at the district office is expected to include additional environmental documentation for the waterline, which connects with another line installed last year by the Santa Margarita Water District, said District Assistant General Manager Mike Dunbar.

The Santa Margarita Water District pipeline ends about 100 feet north of the eastern end of Avenida Pico. The South Coast Water District and the Tri-Cities Water District are jointly funding an extension of the line so it can feed Dana Point, Laguna Beach and coastal San Clemente, Dunbar said.

The waterline installed by Santa Margarita Water District, and the pending extension through San Clemente, are wider, 33-to-36-inch pipes that can carry larger amounts of water to South Orange County.

They are designed to meet the growing population of the area and reduce the threat of water shortages, officials said.

South Coast Water District serves northern Dana Point and South Laguna. The Tri-Cities Water District serves San Clemente and part of Capistrano Beach. The South Coast Water District is at 31592 West St. in Laguna Beach.
