WORLD IN BRIEF : COLOMBIA : Rebel Group Agrees to Lay Down Arms

A Maoist guerrilla group in Colombia agreed to lay down it s arms and convert to a peaceful political party in return for pardon, spokesman for both side said. Leaders of the People’s Liberation Army (EPL), fighting since 1967, reached the agreement after seven months of talks, sources in Bogota said. The accord, however, must be ratified by the EPL’s 800 guerrillas.
