EPA Introduces Energy Plan: Pointing to potential savings of 10% in the national consumption of electricity, the Environmental Protection Agency announced agreements with two dozen American corporations that will lead the way in adopting new high-technology lighting. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding with the EPA agreeing to survey all of their facilities and install new lighting technologies wherever profitable, to conduct lighting education programs for their employees and to use state-of-the-art equipment in any new facilities they construct. Some of the firms participating in the program included Polaroid Corp., Bechtel, Amoco, Nike and Johnson & Johnson.
