Speedy Settlement: Stalled in a lawsuit with regulators? One aggrieved party got quick results--thanks to U.S. District Court Judge Dickran Tevrizian in Los Angeles.

Last month, Tevrizian criticized red tape that had stalled litigation over a parcel of land in Newport Beach’s Back Bay area. He ordered the heads of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Resolution Trust Corp. to appear in court Monday to explain.

The head of both federal agencies is L. William Seidman, and he apparently was too busy to appear in court. By the time he was scheduled to appear in court Monday, the case was settled.
