Monterey Park : City to Celebrate 75th Year
A party for 75-year-olds, a ceremony honoring potato chip queen Laura Scudder, and a trilingual book chronicling the city’s history are some of the ways the city plans to mark its diamond jubilee.
Monterey Park was incorporated May 29, 1916, and on Saturday, Jan. 26, city officials and volunteers will throw a party for all 75-year-olds. People who were born in 1915 or 1916 who wish to be recognized can call Lucy Ammeian at (213) 724-0607.
At noon the city will unveil a Laura Scudder plaque at the northeast corner of Atlantic Blvd. and Garvey Ave., near the site of the original Laura Scudder potato chip factory. Free shuttle rides to the ceremony will leave Langley Senior Citizens Center between 11 a.m. and noon, and return at 1 p.m., when the party is scheduled to begin.
The city also is publishing a 190-page book on Monterey Park, which will be printed in Chinese, English and Spanish.
