United States: An F/A-18 Hornet fighter-bomber was lost and its pilot listed as MIA. The Pentagon identified him as Lt. Cmdr. Michael S. Speicher, 33, based on the aircraft carrier Saratoga in Florida.
Britain: Two tornado fighter-bombers were lost. The crew of one plane reportedly bailed out.
Kuwait: One warplane lost.
Iraq: In early air attacks, Baghdad reported 23 civilians killed and 66 wounded.
F-15E Eagle: F-15E helped launched Operation Desert Storm as the fighter-bombers took off from the largest U.S air base in central Saudi Arabia. The Eagle, an all-weather strike fighter, has a strike capability of 670 miles and performs high-ordnance payload air-to-ground missions. Armament:
Sparrow, Sidewinder or AMRAAM air-to-air missiles
Maverick TV-guided missiles
GBU-12/24 laser-guided bombs
GBU-TV guided bombs
Gravity bombs
