Harbor Park Golf Course Among Busiest

The nine-hole golf course at Harbor Park was the second busiest in the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department system last year. In all, 124,628 rounds of golf were played at the Wilmington course. Rancho Park’s 18-hole course, with 134,291 rounds played, was the busiest.

Steve Neuburger of Westchester scored a hole in one with an eight iron on Penmar’s 136-yard third hole recently. Russell Love, also of Westchester, also aced the same hole with a five iron.

A group of boy gymnasts ages 10 to 12 placed sixth and a group ages 7 to 9 placed fourth in the Second Southern Conference Preliminary Jr. Olympic Gymnastics meet held at Studio West in Rolling Hills last weekend. Individually, Tony Capozzola placed third on the vault and Chris Thompson placed eighth in free exercise, first in the pommel horse, third in rings, second in vault, sixth on the parallel bars, third on the high bar and first in all-around competition in the 10-12 age class. Chris Shaffer placed second in free exercise and Victor Bowman placed first in free exercise and 13th in the all-around in the 7-9 age class.

Region 11 of the American Youth Soccer Organization plays host to its annual awards ceremony Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Miraleste High. Information: (213) 548-4116.

The Manhattan Beach Badminton Club plays host to a seniors/masters international tournament Feb. 7-10. Gary Higgins of Redondo Beach and John Britton of Manhattan Beach, members of the United States National Badminton Team, will compete along with players from Canada and Mexico. Admission is free. The Southern California Slo-Two-Pitch Softball Assn. has openings for teams in tournaments to be played in Los Angeles and Orange counties this month and February and March.
