Police Cars Carrying Flags, Yellow Ribbons

Monrovia’s 18 blue-and-white police cars are carrying small American flags and yellow ribbons on their antennas in honor of U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf.

“We’re not trying to make a political statement,” Sgt. Ron Buck said. “We just want to show that we are behind our country and our troops and we have a real concern for our prisoners of war in Iraq.” The 3-by-5-inch American flags are the type usually handed out by the International Exchange Club to several thousand local youths for the Monrovia Day parade held each May, Buck said.

“It’s getting hard to find American flags around here,” said Buck, a past president of the Exchange Club. “And I knew we had some left, so we are putting them to good use.”
