Cerritos : Discussion on Location for Seniors Center Postponed

Share

A scheduled discussion on where to put the proposed senior citizens center was postponed last week by the Cerritos City Council and rescheduled for the Feb. 21 council meeting.

Mayor Ann B. Joynt said the discussion had to be put off because city staff has not yet completed a review of the proposed sites nor met with all the owners of sites.

There are four locations under discussion but only two--a small area behind City Hall and Pat Nixon Park--are owned by the city. The other sites being considered are Cerritos Regional Park, which is owned by Los Angeles County, and a vacant lot near Whitney High School.

Construction of the center, approved last month by the council, will be paid for with profits from the city’s redevelopment projects.
