Rites Friday for Louis Stevens Ridgeway

Services will be held Friday for Louis Stevens Ridgeway, a longtime San Diego resident and former Community College District Board of Trustees president, who died Monday of cancer. He was 72.

A native of Charleston, S.C., Ridgeway attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned a master’s degree in public administration.

In 1972, he was elected as one of the original members of the community college board and served two terms before stepping down in 1981.

He was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Adult Education by President Reagan after leaving the community college board.

At various times in his business career, Ridgeway was a salesman, a real estate agent, and built motels in Mission Valley and Arizona as a general partner with EZ-8 Motels Inc.

Ridgeway served on numerous political and civic boards and committees including the San Diego Council of the Navy League, the Salvation Army, the San Diego Rescue Mission, and the Rachel Grosvenor Family Center for Homeless Women and Children.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; four brothers, and two sisters.

Services will be held at noon Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 2111 Camino Del Rio South. Burial services will follow at El Camino Memorial Park on Carroll Canyon Road.
