World IN BRIEF : CHINA : Wang, Top Student Leader, Put on Trial

The trial of Wang Dan, who had been the most-wanted leader of the pro-democracy student movement, opened in Beijing. Wang, 23, has been jailed since he was caught trying to flee China about a month after the movement was crushed in an army assault across Beijing in June, 1989.
