THE SIDELINES : Soviet Skaters Tie in Ice Dance

SOFIA, Bulgaria —
Soviet skaters tied for first after the first portion of the ice dance competition in the European Figure Skating Championships today.
Defending champions Marina Klimova and Sergei Ponomarenko came from behind to tie fellow Soviets Maia Usova and Aleksandr Zhulin after the two compulsory dances which count for 20% of the total score.
