Man Seriously Injured in 100-Foot Fall From Cliff
A 19-year-old man imbibing with friends was seriously injured when he fell off a cliff in Palos Verdes Estates and plunged 100 feet, police said Thursday.
James Chilcoat of Hawthorne and three friends were taking in the ocean view when the fall occurred in the 500 block of Paseo del Mar about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday.
Public service officer David Drapeau said Chilcoat was apparently standing close to the cliff’s edge when the dirt gave way and he lost his footing.
He plunged about 100 feet and a rescue helicopter was needed to pull him back up. Chilcoat was flown to UCLA-Harbor Medical Center, where he was in fair condition.
