THE GULF WAR: The Diplomatic Front : In the Mideast

Share

Egyptian President HOSNI MUBARAK said Iraq’s Scud missiles cannot win the Gulf War and appealed to Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein to end the bloodshed by withdrawing from Kuwait. “These missiles are like children’s Easter fireworks, they are just for show and they do not serve the Palestinian people,” he told a special joint session of Parliament. . . . Turkish President TURGUT OZAL, spurning a veiled Iraqi warning, vowed to hit back if attacked. “I can tell you what we have already said--every attack on Turkey will lead to a retaliatory attack. There’s no doubt about that.” Turkey is allowing allied planes to use Turkish bases for attacks on Iraq.
