Sister Elizabeth Nolan; Retired Nun, Teacher

A memorial Mass is scheduled today for Sister Elizabeth Nolan, who last year celebrated 50 years as a nun after teaching at San Fernando Valley Catholic schools for 17 years.

Sister Elizabeth died Jan. 17 at a hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 68.

Born in Illinois, she belonged to the Order of Adrian Dominican Sisters and had taught in Chicago’s inner city. In 1973, she came to California and worked as administrator of St. Catherine of Grace School in Reseda for 10 years, later teaching at Our Lady of Grace School in Encino from 1983-85 and at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Northridge from 1985 until her retirement in 1990, said Sister Marie Victoriano, principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School.

Sister Elizabeth is survived by her brother, William Nolan, and a sister, Sister Noreen Nolan.

A Memorial Mass is planned at 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 9800 Canby St., Northridge. She was buried last week in Adrian, Mich. Norman’s Family Chapel in Santa Cruz is handling the arrangements.
