OIL SPILL: Iraq has sabotaged Kuwait’s main supertanker loading pier, dumping millions of gallons of oil into the Persian Gulf, officials said. The spill poses environmental problems and strategic concerns. It may also threaten Saudi Arabia’s desalination plants.

NEW ISRAEL ATTACK: Missiles fired from western Iraq struck in the Tel Aviv and Haifa areas, killing one Israeli and wounding more than 60 others. It was the fifth attack by the Scud-type missiles on the Jewish state in the last eight days and the first that directly caused a death.

DEATH IN RIYADH: Iraq fired four Scuds into Saudi Arabia. One landed near downtown Riyadh, reportedly killing one person and injuring 30. Two of the Scuds were destroyed by Patriot missiles, and the fourth apparently went astray.

GUARD BOMBED: French jets attacked Iraq’s Republican Guard units near the Kuwaiti border, the second such French strike into Iraq.

MORE POW INTERVIEWS: Baghdad Radio broadcast purported interviews with captured allied air crews, three American and one Italian. But a later broadcast said such interviews will stop.

SORTIE TALLY: The Pentagon said the past 24 hours allowed for the busiest day of the air campaign, with 2,707 sorties flown in good weather above Iraq and Kuwait.

REVISED TACTICS: Britain said it is stopping low-level air attacks against Iraqi targets. The announcement followed the loss of six British fighter-bombers in the first week.

WEATHER CENSORED: Israel is censoring weather reports to avoid giving any aid to Iraq plans for missile attacks.
