THE GULF WAR : More Reserves
The Army has called to active duty 8,478 MORE RESERVISTS and National Guard members to support Operation Desert Storm. The activated units include the 693rd Composite Service Co., general supply from Bell, Calif. The Army has called more than 190,000 reservists and National Guard members to active duty since August. Last week, President Bush authorized the military to dip into its Individual Ready Reserve, the second-tier pool of reservists. Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney has also authorized the Army to call up 220,000 reservists, up from 115,000 under previous ceilings.
