Public Comment

According to state law, City Council meetings must allow time for the public to comment. Our council places this time at the end of their agenda. Of course, no one knows when this will be, as no one knows when the council meetings end. This is an effective deterrent to anyone who wishes to address the council, since there are not many people who wish to sit through hours of council meetings in order to get their three minutes of “public comment.”

Of course, the council could put the public comment period at the beginning of the meeting to make it easy for the public, but this would actually show respect for the people. I’m not sure the council is ready for such a drastic change.
